On Stories…
• Conflict drives engagement, which drive audience.
• Never let a commercial relationship kill a story. Ever.
• Stories should be multiple format. Editorial bleeds into video, which then gets stripped for audio.
On Content…
• Speed is everything. Be the first to report the story, with small bursts of context.
• Avoid long-form stories if it can be quick.
• Write for two audiences: the expert and the novice.
• Experiment rapidly.
On Design…
• Always use the best designers. They can compensate for something that is less than perfect.
On Events…
• It’s all about speed and cadence to keep energy high and maintain attendee interest.
• PowerPoints are banned for presentations.
• Panels are banned for talks.
On Data…
• Our data product… should be ubiquitous in all of our news products.
