We asked Cyndy Drummey to talk about the evolving role of the modern multi-platform editor at MediaGrowth Summit 2019 in Chicago this May. She will share her experiences and thoughts at that time, but here is one of the points she made during our conversation:
Cyndy Drummey:
Many editors are still challenged by the platform balance that must be struck between the job they used to do and the one they now need to do. I think editors can play an exciting new role in deepening the data on our readers and contributing to the company’s product development strategies. Editors’ extensive industry knowledge, strong relationships with key players, and keen understanding of our audiences’ businesses uniquely qualify them to participate in the process of new
product development. We need to come up with ways to encourage their buy-in, harness their relationships, help them think differently, and use their industry involvement, content development skills, and technical expertise to create new tools and products that will benefit our audiences and customers.
Cyndy Drummey began her media career in the editorial department twenty-eight years ago. As she has risen in the ranks over the years, she has maintained her connection with editors and currently conducts Bobit’s editorial training in addition to supervising the company’s web, creative services, and audience development teams.
